If you’re missing most or all of your teeth, fixed implant dentures can provide a secure, natural-looking replacement that stays firmly in place. Unlike traditional dentures, fixed implant dentures are supported by dental implants and are designed to remain securely attached in your mouth. They provide a stable foundation for a full set of replacement teeth, helping you eat, speak, and smile with greater confidence. At Greenfield Dental, this treatment is provided by highly-experienced implant dentist Dr. Lion Berzin.
How fixed implant dentures work
Fixed implant dentures replace an entire arch of missing teeth with a custom-designed set of replacement teeth permanently anchored to dental implants.
1 Dental implants
Several small titanium implants are strategically placed in the jaw to provide a strong foundation for your new teeth. Titanium is strong, and integrates well with the surrounding bone.
2 Implant connections
Specialized connectors attach the replacement teeth securely to the implants, creating a stable foundation for your full-arch restoration.
3 Fixed replacement teeth
A custom-designed full arch of replacement teeth is attached to the implants. Unlike a removable denture, it is designed to stay securely in place and can only be removed by a dental professional.
The steps in a fixed implant denture procedure
Every treatment is different, but the process always involves several stages. Dr. Berzin will explain each step and make sure you know what to expect before treatment begins.
1 Planning
Careful planning helps ensure your implant are placed with precision. Advanced digital imaging, including Cone Beam CT scanning, provides a detailed 3D view of your jaw, teeth, bone, and surrounding structures. This information allows Dr. Berzin to assess your individual anatomy and plan the placement of your implants with a high degree of precision.
2 Preparation
If necessary, the area may need to be prepared before the implants can be placed. This could include removing remaining teeth or addressing areas of infection or gum disease. In some cases, additional procedures may be recommended to create a suitable foundation for treatment.
3 Implant placement
Once the site is ready, the titanium implants (usually four) are carefully placed into the jaw according to your individualized treatment plan.
4 Healing
The implants need time to integrate with the surrounding bone and become stable foundations for your new teeth. Depending on your treatment plan, you may receive temporary replacement teeth while your implants heal.
5 Your new smile
Once healing is complete, your custom full-arch restoration is securely attached to the implants. Your new fixed implant dentures are now complete!
The benefits of implant-supported dentures
Greater stability
Because your replacement teeth are anchored to dental implants, they won’t slip or move like traditional removable dentures can.
More comfortable eating
A stable full-arch restoration can make eating more comfortable and allow you to enjoy a wider range of foods.
No daily removal
Unlike implant-supported dentures, fixed implant dentures are designed to remain in place. You don’t need to remove them each night.
Support for your jawbone
Dental implants can help maintain the bone around areas where teeth have been lost, providing a stable foundation for your restoration.
