A more comfortable implant experience
The thought of a dental implant treatment can make some patients nervous or anxious. Sedation dentistry can help you feel calmer and more relaxed. Dr. Lion Berzin offers several sedation options for patients who would benefit from additional comfort and support during their procedure.
The benefits of sedation dentistry
Sedation can make implant treatment a more comfortable and less stressful experience. Depending on the type of sedation used, it may help:
- Reduce anxiety and help you feel more at ease
- Minimize pain during implant procedures
- Make longer or more involved treatments easier
- Shorten your treatment time
Before recommending sedation, Dr. Berzin will review your medical history and assess your overall health to make sure it’s appropriate for you. You’ll also receive clear instructions about preparing for your appointment and what to expect afterward.
Three sedation options for implant treatment
Oral sedation
Oral sedation involves taking medication in pill or tablet form before your appointment. It produces a relaxed, drowsy state while you remain conscious and able to communicate with your dental team. Your blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels are monitored throughout your procedure.
Intravenous (IV) sedation
With IV sedation, medication is delivered directly into your bloodstream through a small IV. This allows the level of sedation to be carefully managed throughout your treatment. You may feel very relaxed and drowsy during the procedure, and you may remain somewhat drowsy afterward. Your blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels are monitored throughout your treatment.
Inhaled minimal sedation
Also known as nitrous oxide or “laughing gas,” inhaled sedation is delivered through a small mask placed over your nose. The amount can be carefully controlled throughout your appointment, and the effects wear off quickly once the gas is stopped. This option allows you to remain awake and responsive while feeling more relaxed.
Sedation tailored to your needs
Not every patient needs or wants sedation, and there’s no single option that’s right for everyone. Dr. Berzin will consider your treatment, medical history, comfort level, and individual needs when determining which approach is most appropriate.
