Supporting your body’s natural healing process
Dental implant surgery involves your body’s natural healing process. Platelet-Rich Fibrin, or PRF, is a treatment that uses components of your own blood to support that healing process. PRF may be recommended as part of your dental implant treatment to help support healing at the surgical site and promote the regeneration of healthy tissue and bone.
What is PRF and how does it work?
PRF is made from a small sample of your own blood. The sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelets, fibrin, and other naturally-occurring components that play a role in healing. The resulting PRF is then applied to the surgical area during your implant procedure, where it can support the body’s natural healing response. Because PRF is created from your own blood, there are no foreign substances being introduced into the treatment area.
The benefits of PRF for implant treatment
Safety
Because PRF is prepared from a small sample of your own blood, it’s a natural part of your own body’s healing process.
Regeneration of bone
PRF can support the natural healing and regeneration of tissue and bone around the surgical site and dental implant.
Better clinical performance
PRF concentrates platelets, fibrin, and other naturally occurring components involved in healing, helping support the body’s response following implant surgery.
Efficiency
PRF can be prepared in the office during your implant procedure, without requiring a separate treatment appointment.
Broad applicability
PRF may be useful in a range of implant procedures and for patients with different treatment needs. Dr. Berzin will determine whether it’s appropriate based on your individual circumstances.
